Positive Discipline Month - Elementary

HRIMS (map)

By popular demand, we are dedicating the month of October to diving into the world of Positive Discipline. For those into etymology, discipline comes from the Latin disciplina meaning to teach, learn and acquire knowledge. It is a balanced kind and firm pathway to helping develop the traits we want for our children? responsible, respectful and
resourceful members of their communities.

Parents,

The Board is composed of parents like you, committed to an incredible environment for child development, both for our own children and for the Hampton Roads community as a whole.

We share your passion for this school, for the classroom guides and assistants, for the amazing staff, and for this community. We share your gratitude for the independence, creativity, intelligence and self-confidence we see in our children as a result of this incredible learning environment. We want the very best for our children and for the school as we move into the future.

We now have a 10-Year Vision for that future. As the Board created this new Vision and Strategic Plan (an 18-month process that involved dialogue with fellow parents, all staff members, and influential community leaders), we were delighted to see that all of us parents have a common focus for where this school is headed next.

Watch the video here to get a sense of the inspiring Vision we have all created together.

Then come to our kick-off party -- November 2nd, starting at 6:30 and completing before 8pm, in the multi-purpose room -- and hear the full Vision and the beautiful 2-Year Plan to move us forward. The future of our amazing school community is so bright, and without your participation the next chapter of the school can’t be written. Come be an author. Let’s create the future together.

We invite and encourage our families to share beloved customs, practices, foods, dance, dress, music, arts, holidays, language, stories, and
knowledge with our school community by planning a special visit to your child's classroom this month. (Of course, you may come to visit any other time as well!)
