Katie Davenport Katie is a native to Hampton, who lives in Newport News with her husband, Jake, and their three small children. As a former Montessori student, Katie is passionate about the Montessori method and strives to implement what she can at home while also supporting the education of the students of HRIMS, to include her oldest daughter, Ellie, who is in Children's House. Katie studied acting in London as a young adult, but established her career in Human Resources in the Hampton Roads area over the last 10 years, currently working as a consultant. She has a great love for the arts and design, and enjoys traveling, history and spending time with family and friends.

Mike Flaherty Mike is a parent of two students in the upper and lower elementary programs (Connor and Isabell). Ben Hailer Ben is a parent of two students in our elementary program.  He has a background in engineering and real estate.  He joined the Board in 2015 to help support facilities development.  For the last two years Ben has served as President of the Board of Trustees.

Fay Kimber Fay was born and grew up in England. She left her home country in 2005 to pursue a science career in Newport News. She has since gained a PhD in electrical engineering and works as a physicist at Jefferson Lab. Fay's three children all attend HRIMS, and she and her family hope to spend many more happy years as part of the school community. Her hobbies include rowing and all things crafty, from glass blowing to sewing.

Dorothy Knox Dorothy begins her seventeenth and final year as Head of School at HRIMS. A native of Ireland, Dorothy received her degree in Special Education and her Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Montessori Training at both the Early Childhood and Elementary levels at Sion Hill College in Dublin, Ireland. She is certified in MACAR (Montessori Applied to Children at Risk). While her own family still lives in Ireland, America is now home and “family” to Dorothy. In addition to teaching at the Elementary level for 22 years, she has served as Head of School in several Montessori environments. With over thirty- five years’ experience in Montessori classrooms and communities Dorothy says, “Montessori is such an integral part of my life, I cannot imagine a day without the company of children.” She is an active participant in our community having served on numerous non-profits boards both locally and internationally. When not at HRIMS Dorothy can be found “escaping” in a book or hiking mountains around the world. Her passion is international travel and promoting education for underprivileged children in third world countries through non-profit organizations.

Brennan Smith Brennan has been an HRIMS parent since his son Aaron began in Toddler class in March of 2015. His son Dylan will join our toddler community this year. Brennan's work as a leadership development consultant for the private and public sectors was a good fit for the Board when he first joined.  A new Strategic Plan process was beginning and he was excited to serve on the committee that brought all the school's stakeholders together to create a beautiful plan for the future. Brennan's wife Katie teaches at Christopher Newport University. They recently celebrated their 10th anniversary. Brennan's hobbies include learning primitive camping skills, hiking, and puzzles of many kinds.  As a passion project, he founded the Escape Room –an adventure experience for all ages!
